Sultan Ibrahim Building is Johor's state secretariat building, where state government departments are housed. It is located at Bukit Timbalan in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The building was constructed between 1936 and 1939. It was officially opened by the late Sultan Ibrahim of Johor a year later. In 1942, when the Japanese occupied Malaya, its Japanese Imperial Army used it as a fortress and a command centre to spy on the British activities in Singapore which was attacked days later. The building was also partly damaged during the Japanese invasion. The damaged part is still visible today. Its architecture combines colonial and Malay architecture with its Saracenic design and tower making it a landmark in Johor Bahru. The building was designed by the renowned British architecture firm, Palmer and Turner which was also responsible for designing the Johor Bahru General Hospital now known as Hospital Sultanah Aminah as well as several prominent landmarks in Singapore. The building houses the Menteri Besar's (Chief Minister) office and State Assembly hall.It was also the tallest building in Malaya during the pre-Merdeka era. In Johor Bahru itself, it stood unchallenged as the tallest building in the town until the completion of the Merlin Tower in the 1970s.
Johor Bahru Chinese Heritage Museum in Jalan Ibrahim - Johor Bahru, was set up at the cost of RM1.2mil.which has completed the daunting task of piecing together over 200 years of the Chinese history. It has 1,300 historical document and artifacts, the details of five main Chinese clan which known as Hakka, Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese and Hainan. Most of the artifact and manuscripts were donated by the owner-families and preserve to educate the new generation about the past of their clans, history of the Chinese in Johor Bahru was dated back more than two centuries. The museum was made possible through the work of academics from Malaysia, Singapore and China. The oldest and most priceless exhibits were two signboards which made in 1874 that hung above the Chinese temple here. And you could see a construction of the old buildings in the state, including the Sultan’s palace had been done by Wong Ah Fook The Association most welcomes donations of items of historical value to preserve the Chinese heritage. Johor Menteri Besar Dato’ Abdul Ghani Othman had launched the museum on 3rd October 2009. He said the museum would interest tourists and those who wished to know more about the Johor Chinese community.
Masjid Negeri Sultan Abu Bakar is Johor's state mosque, located on Jalan Skudai, Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. It was constructed between 1892 and 1900, under the direction of Sultan Abu Bakar. The architecture of the mosque was largely based on Moorish styles, along with some Malay influence.
